- Yes, if the individual has been before the Magistrate Judge and the judge has set a bond amount. At this point, the individual can be bonded out from a bonding company, cash bond, and if he/she qualifies can bond out through Pretrial Court Services (409-766-2404).
- Yes. The judge has to signed an order granting your application.
- No, it is not required but you can hire an attorney to represent you prior to your first court setting if you choose to do so. Your first court setting is for the purpose of determining how you would like to manage your case.
You will be presented with three options-
1. You can request a 30 day reset to hire an attorney before if you wish to choose your own legal counsel.
2. If you would rather represent yourself you have the option of signing a waiver and speaking to the Assistant District Attorney about your case.
3. If you want legal counsel but you cannot afford to hire an attorney, you can fill out a paupers oath and the judge will review and either grant or deny your request based off your eligibility. - You can, it's really up to you.
- We look in the service tab of Odyssey, tell them yes or no, with the date if it was served.
- Contact DPS to see if eligible, get a SR-22 from your insurance, filing fee is $257, you can pick up the application in our office or League City
How do I change my attorney I have been trying to talk to them and they do not return my phone calls?
If you have a Court Appointed Attorney and wish to request a replacement this can be done at your next scheduled court date. When the judge calls your name on the docket you can make the request. It is solely up to the judge whether or not the attorney will be withdrawn and replaced.
If your attorney was retained by you and you wish to hire a different attorney to represent you, the new attorney will file a motion to withdraw your previously hired counsel.- It can be informal, hand written, or we have forms in our office, it can be a short version of how you are involved in the case.
- There are several options for acquiring case documents based on the need for plain copies or certified copies.
Plain copies may be purchased from the Galveston County Clerk's Office for 1.00 per page either in person or by telephone and they will be mailed to you.

Go to Criminal Case Records >> Enter in your First and Last name >> Click on the Case Number in Blue on the Left >> in the Events & Orders of the Court the documents that you can access are in blue, click on the one you need >> once again you will have to click on the blue text at the top where it has the selected event and your document will show up as a pop up you will have to select whether to open the document or to save it to your pc or device.
Certified Copies
Certified copies may be purchased from the Galveston County Clerk's Office for a 5.00 charge for certification plus 1.00 per page for each document either in person or by telephone and they will be mailed to you.

- If under $20,000 you'll file in the Justice of the Peace court, if over you file here, filing fee is $257.00/ $4.00 per citation, you will let us know how you want the citation served, we do not have the filing papers in our office, you'll need an original petition stating the parties and facts of the case, you can go online to Texas Code of Civil procedures or texas law help.org.
When you have the papers ready to file bring them into our office with the filing fee. You are looking at a hearing date of 120 days out. - Court Coordinators manage Misdemeanor Court Dockets. Contact the Court Coordinator aligned with the Court that was assigned to your case. Follow any instructions left by Court Coordinator in voicemail message and send an e-mail if you have access to document your issue.

You can contact DPS, come in and file an amended application, which you don't pay for, you'll have to go before the judge again to get a new order.

If the bond posted is from an out of county warrant it may take some time for the courts to receive the out of county bond.
