Mission Statement

To provide a comprehensive and innovative program to prevent urban blight and decay through education, enforcement and special programs designed to enhance the unincorporated areas of Galveston County. 

To provide administrative oversight and enforcement of Game Rooms utilizing the Galveston County Game Room regulations and partnering with law enforcement in the unincorporated areas of the county.

Description of Services

The Galveston County Nuisance Abatement and Game Room program was created to enforce Chap 343 of the Texas Health Code and numerous other health related statutes and regulations in the unincorporated areas of Galveston County. The program responds to complaints from the public, elected officials, state and local agencies. It has created numerous special projects to assist the residents of Galveston County. This program is integrated with other county departments and elected officials for non-typical problem solving.

This program also handles the administrative enforcement of game rooms in the unincorporated areas of the county. The Galveston County Game Room program has a separate permitting, inspection, and investigation process from law enforcement. We coordinate with law enforcement and other regulatory agencies in the enforcement of the various statutes, regulations and administrative codes for game rooms in the county.

Goals and Objectives

• Respond and address citizens’ complaints for nuisances and game rooms
• Provide for a safer and healthier community through the abatement of nuisances (Demolition of dilapidated abandoned structures)
• Enforcement of the numerous health codes
• Enforcement of the Game Room Regulations
• Continual evaluation of both programs and how to make them more effective
• Education of the public (through notices of violation, neighborhood meetings and events)
• Coordinate and support county, state, and local entities on issues that involve our program
• Provide special projects to support the eradication of slum and blight in our community:
