The Wayne Johnson Community Center located in La Marque Texas is a Grant Funded Congregate Meal and Transportation Program that provides daily nutrition, and recreational programs to senior citizens in Galveston County. Our mission is to provide exceptional life experiences to the seniors in our community. Recreation Specialist, Sherita Jenkins

Sherita has been with the county for 10 years. She looks forward to coming to work each day to be with the seniors. Just knowing that the programs and services provided will help enrich the lives of seniors brings her joy. She is a firm believer in pouring back into the ones that poured into her growing up. For the past 10 years Sherita has forged hundreds of relationships with seniors. She feels that the work she does is not just a job with participants, it is a second home with a newfound family.

Activity Assistant, La Brenda Lee

 La Brenda has been with the senior service program for 13 years. It brings her great joy and pride and a sense of accomplishment knowing that she can bring joy, laughter, and activities to her seniors. Seeing and being a part of their lives is very rewarding for her. She continues to learn from them and has enjoyed being with them as they grow and learn new things together. She has built lifelong friendships in her 13yrs of service and is excited about establishing more.  

 Transportation Driver, Patricia Downey

Patricia recently joined the family with 19 years of Transportation experience along with many years of People Management/Customer Service experience. As a driver for WJCC I came in to the job knowing I would be transporting our seniors but didn’t realize that my duties would include the joy and excitement of the day to day activities that are prepared with much consideration for our seniors. I look forward to everyday knowing that I am a part of the Wayne Johnson Community Center FAMILY.

Center Offerings

The center consists of a Multi-Purpose Room, Exercise Room, Craft Room and a Library. We offer Wii Sports, table games, Sit and Be Fit, exercise classes, local field trips, day trips, assistance running local errands, inspirational classes, educational and health presentations and more… We also provide comfortable and convenient transportation to and from the center for independent participants 60 years and older.
