Commonly referred to as the "Southern House Mosquito". Distinguished by the white bands on its abdomen that are shaped as D's. They are common in subdivisions because of their desire for storm drains. Cities with large numbers of subdivisions often see higher numbers of this species.
Larval habitat: Breed in septic ditches, artificial containers, and other areas with foul water.
Adult habitat: Adults are found in storm drains, yards and often invade homes if given the opportunity.
Biting activity: dusk and dawn
Flight range: less than a mile
