Commonly known as the "Asian Tiger mosquito". Distinguished by its striking black and white coloring as well as the white stripe on its head and thorax. An introduced species. First report of a large population in the U.S. was found in Houston (1986). It is the fastest spreading mosquito in the world. This species is found everywhere within our county. The presence of this species in your yard usually says the breeding site is located in your yard or in your neighbors. Most of our complaint calls are contributed by homeowners with this species present in their yard. Most people are unaware that they are breeding mosquitoes in their own yard. The best way to control mosquito populations is to empty all containers 1-2 times a week. 

Larval habitat: Breed in tree holes but larvae are mostly found in artificial containers. Their larvae can be found in anything that holds water including: jars, flower pots, wheel barrows, bird bathes, etc... (See the source reduction section)

Adult habitat: Often found in yards and wooded areas.

Biting activity: daytime

Flight Range: less than half a mile
